MOULD

Mould is small plant life that may settle and grow on any surface, be it stainless steel, concrete or glass, including any OUTDURE products. Mildew is a form of mold that grows on damp surfaces.

Mould spores are like seeds, but aren’t visible until colonies form. Wind, insects, animals and rain transport the spores easily. It is very hard to control and impossible to completely eliminate due to mold’s adaptability and large number of species. Mould will not affect the structural performance of ECO-DECKING decking.

Mould needs, moisture, and temperatures between 0 and about 30 degrees. ECO-DECKING is not a food source for mold, but can collect food in the form of pollens, dirt and debris from overflow of potplants and gutters. If the gaps between deck boards are too small, clogged or non existant, then moisture cannot dry quickly. Use the correct clip to ensure spacing specification.

Removing Mould from ECO-DECKING

All exterior building materials require cleaning no matter what they are made of. ECO-DECKING products are not maintenance free, however only require a fraction of the maintenance timber decks demand.

A very small amount of maintenance will go a long way to retaining a beautiful outdoor environment.

If mold colonies appear, clean the deck with a deck wash such as Wet and Forget or 30 Seconds. Power washing with a waterblast does not remove all spores of mould and will quickly grow back. An appropriate cleaner will kill them, not spread them.
