CARE & CLEANING
All exterior building materials require cleaning no matter what they are made of. ECO-DECKING products are not maintenance free, however only require a fraction of the maintenance timber decks demand.
A very small amount of maintenance will go a long way to retaining a beautiful outdoor environment.
Below are are some tips and tricks for keeping your deck look great!
NO ONE LIKES MOULD
Mould needs, moisture, and temperatures between 0 and about 30 degrees. ECO-DECKING is not a food source for mold, but can collect food in the form of pollens, dirt and debris from overflow of potplants and gutters. If the gaps between deck boards are too small, clogged or non existant, then moisture cannot dry quickly. Use the correct clip to ensure spacing specification. If mould colonies appear, clean the deck with a deck wash such as Wet and Forget or 30 Seconds. Power washing with a water-blaster does not remove all spores of mould and it will quickly grow back. An appropriate cleaner will kill the spores, not spread them.
PRESSURE WASHER
OUTDURE does not recommend the use of a pressure washer. Any washer with a greater than 1,500 PSI and/or applied closer than 26cm from the deck surface could damage the decking surface and result in a loss of warranty coverage.
DIRT & DEBRIS
Clean deck to remove dirt and debris. Soap, hot water and a soft bristle brush are all that is needed.
MILDEW & GRIME
Use a non aggressive product such as "wet and forget" or "30 seconds".
ECO-DECKING can be cleaned with many commercially available deck washes. Many stains can be removed using household cleaners or degreasers such as tri sodium phosphate. Stubborn stains can be bleached or may require a deck cleaner containing oxalic acid.
BUILDERS CHALK MARKINGS
Chalk lines are permanent. We suggest using white chalk if you can. Scrubbing the area with hot soapy water with bleach may dislodge some of the chalk.
VISIBLE BATCH NUMBER MARKINGS
The batch markings on the side of the decking boards can be hidden with careful installation. Acetone can normally remove them completely.
WATER SPOTS/LEAF STAINING
Tannin leaching occurs in ECO-DECKING and all wood based products naturally. Allow for at least 16 weeks of normal weathering.
SCUFFS & ABRASIONS
These will fade or disappear naturally after 12-16 weeks of weathering. ECO-DECKING is designed to retain its fresh look, obviously if furniture etc is dragged over any surface it will leave some kind of marking
RUST STAINS
Depending on the surface finish your decking product has, rust stains can be removed by light brushing with a high quality fine wire brush. The surface finish you achieve is entirely up to the technique and pressure you use.
OIL & GREASE STAINS
Use household-degreasing agent as soon as the stain occurs and scrub, then rinse with hot water. Repeat if necessary.
BERRIES & WINE STAINS
These stains can be very stubborn in any material. We suggest you mix bleach into hot water according to the bleach-packaging label. Scrub the stain lightly and rinse thoroughly.
INK STAINS
Many inks are designed to be permanent, However, the stain may be lightened by scrubbing with hot soapy water, rinse thoroughly and repeat if necessary.
We suggest you periodically clean your deck, even if it appears clean. The best way to keep your deck looking its best to ensure that pollen and debris don’t have a chance to settle.
